A quote from Radio Poland, 6 January 2007

Polish Police is looking for women who have had sexual contact with the Cameroonian refugee, poet and journalist Simon Moleke [winner of the 2006 PEN and Oxfam Freedom of Expression Award], who has been charged and arrested for intentionally infecting women with the HIV virus. Moleke is known in Poland for his poetry and involvement in leftist activism. It is feared that he has purposefully infected at least several Polish women. The case has surfaced only recently, but as records on the internet forum of the Green Party website show, the intentional spreading of HIV by Moleke might have been known to the leftist activist circles as early as over half a year ago.

A quote from Bartlomiej Owczarek’s weblog, 6 January 2007

His relations included young women fascinated by his poetry and human rights campaigns. Some of them allegedly informed him about the disease after learning that they were infected [...] Monika O., literature student: “[...] I was fascinated by human rights activist fighting with racial stereotypes. Soon we started to meet, went to bed. I didn’t suspect that he could infect me with HIV virus and even less, hide from me that he is infected. I also thought that suspecting him of being infected would equal giving way to stereotypes. Thus we made love unprotected.”
