Knife Crime; Britain’s Shame

Violent crime has doubled since Labour came to power a decade ago. Stabbings and assault in Britain are now common, if not daily occurrences; at night city centers are generally regarded as no-go areas; “feral” youths and gangs loitering the streets – often drunk on cheap alcohol – make many people too afraid to go for a walk on a summer evening.

Every week yields up plenty of reasons why people have good reason to be scared in modern Britain. On Saturday evening 60-year old Stan Dixon, a former soldier, was attacked by youths, for asking them not to swear in front of a woman. He died yesterday in hospital. 17 teenagers have been murdered in London alone this year. The latest victim, 16 year-old Ben Kinsella, was killed on Sunday night. On Tuesday Dee Willis, a 28 year-old woman, was stabbed to death by a female attacker in south-east London. Today, the country woke up to reports of the extremely brutal and apparently motiveless murder of two French exchange students, Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez (both 23). The two men had been playing computer games at Mr. Bonomo’s apartment in New Cross, south-east London, on Sunday night, when they were attacked, gagged, tortured (suffering nearly 250 stab wounds between them), and their bodies set on fire.

The police are no longer beloved by the public, it is sad to say. Political correctness and bureaucratic paperwork has meant that officers go for soft targets (including such trivial things as allegedly dropping an apple core), while ignoring serious crime, such as burglary. This week, however, there was a brief spark of hope that things were beginning to turn around. Metropolitan police chief Sir Ian Blair and London mayor Boris Johnson held a joint press conference, announcing that over a thousand arrests had been made, and 538 knives confiscated from youths, in a recent police initiative. Yet, a slap in the face to this hard work, and, indeed, to the general public, the Sentencing Guidelines Council has issued new sentencing guidelines that will mean anyone found guilty of possessing a knife will face only a small fine – no deterrent whatsoever.

The British are not known for protesting. But, today, with a lack of faith in the authorities, a grassroots movement against violence is beginning to emerge. Families of victims of violent crime are making themselves visible, and heard. Yesterday a march was led by the sister of Ben Kinsella, in response to his murder, calling for an end to the epidemic of violence.

The government of England needs enemies

The UK government is in need of enemies and will manufacture them as needed and the press is complicit in this. The UK government has pushed the false religion of "global warming" and the people do not buy it any more.  The government used a ruse to remove guns, now they use a ruse to remove  and outlaw knives.  The government will use a "crisis" to pass even more restrictive laws, higher taxes and more onerous regulations, and the press will be the lead cheerleader.  Of course any press that fails to tow the party line will be shut down. The crime rate while not reported accurately, is the fault of failed government policies and press hype.  Crime will continue to rise as the hope is extinguished in the people.

Britain's New Gun Culture - Watch On-Line

Those with 30 minutes to spare may want to watch this week's Panorama which explores Liverpool's growing gun culture where children as young as 10 and 11 routinely carry guns.
Remember, Britain has some of the 'toughest' gun control laws in the world. This programme [BBC1's Panorama] proves the old adage that 'when you outlaw guns only outlaws have guns.'
This programme is only available to watch on the BBC i-Player until 11.59pm GMT Wednesday 9th July 2008.

The British are not known for protesting.

You are of course correct in this assumption. BUT with the recent demonstrations of the ant-knife and the fuel protestors, this shows and I mis-quote "Something is rotten in the states of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales". Parliament and not just the government are completely out of touch with the electorate. We are asked to tighten our belts whilst they block a motion making them open up their expense claims. The people of the British Isles are now getting totally pissed off. Nobody seems to represent THEM anymore.
What these young thugs fear most is humiliation, so a good old fashioned Saturday morning spent in the stocks would cure this, especially if you can’t get your prayer mat out every five minutes or you need drugs or alcohol to keep you going.

"I do not use Waldorf and Statler arguments".

No, that's true, you do not. But, tell us, do you secretly aspire to do so? If you could, it would certainly be an improvement and much appreciated by all.

intelligence

In terms of intelligence I wouldn't dare compare myself with you. But I do not use Waldorf&Statler arguments.

RE: Frank Lee

I am in England now and it seems that half the tabloids ran almost identical cover stories on the same day. Very odd and certainly not objective.

@kappert

"yeah, let free men kill free men"

Your mentally underdeveloped responses never seems to stop. What part of sociopaths and terrorists killing unarmed innocent "free men" with impunity do you not get? And what part of as a basic human right is the right to protect oneself do you not get? And what part of police as ineffective do you not get? And what part of responsible citizens aren't children, well, excluding yourself, having a right to own the means of self-protection do you not get?

You are a silly distraction and you contribute nothing to any intelligent discussion, both you and your friend Amsterdamsky, a first class anti-Semitic hate monger who also spews nothing intelligent.

@amsterdamsky

Can you explain your point about tabloids being suckered by this report?  By the way, the newspaper that this article links to is the Telegraph, which I believe is still a braodsheet, not a tabloid.

Gov't only disarms the honest

Law abiding citizens should be allowed the means to defend themselves - especially in cases like Britain where the government has proven itself incompetent in  protecting its citizens.

back to the origins

yeah, let free men kill free men

weapon freedom

The posession of knives or any other weapons should be free anyway.
The police should go after the stabbers, not the knives.

The solution to knife crime

The solution to knife crime and any other armed crime is not in banning weapons, it is a high likelihood of lengthy prison sentences. In addition, since Roman times and earlier, the right of free men to carry weapons for their protection was unquestioned.  Except by tyrants and tyrant wannabes. It is past time to reverse the trend started only in the second quarter of the 20th century to restrict possession and carrying of weapons by free men

1984 was just a little late

The tabloids all got together is seems and headlined the same fabricated story.  The sheeples fell for it of course.  Violent crime is actually down in the UK.

@ onecent

I can't disagree with you there, except that gun's might now be considered a little "too American" for some.

As a simple suggestion, I propose that all British citizens work to strike down a ban established in 1988, and reestablish the cane sword as a fashion accessory for all men and women.

They can sing kumbaya all

They can sing kumbaya all they want. The only thing that stops pushing is pushing back real f#$!ng hard. That's especially true with the thoroughly antisocial segment of population responsible for this wave of violence.

The solution to knife crimes is a gun........

The solution to knife crimes is to get a gun, that's more common sense than any lefty pinhead could ever process. Taking a knife to a gun fight is just plain stupid. Word does get around with the slobs that create problems in society. Shot dead, slashed to death, whatever means a sociopath or terrorist takes, there are responsible ways of defending oneself. In most situations the cops can only arrive too late and call the coroner. Most unarmed victims end on an autopsy slap. Calling 911 is a sad joke. But, hey, what lefty whimp is ever going to face up to that.

Here, Americans aren't treated as children by elites, too simple minded to acquire and use guns as a means to protect ourselves. I'm guessing that soon kitchen knives will be banned from the EU, with forks to follow. I hope they get to keep their spoons, and, why not, salt shakers with too many holes were banned from fish-and-chip joints in a part of Britain recently.

There are so many things that the EU Nanny State socialists have to ban. So much work ahead of them. Paper cuts and a crayons ban(choking) can't be far behind.
