2005: GDP Prelim

Numbers are tricky things. If you are so inclined to believe the following from the People's Daily:

China's economy grew 9.8 percent in 2005, said Ou Xinqian, vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission in Jinan Sunday.

China last month revised the size of its economy in 2004 by 16.8 percent to 15.99 trillion yuan (1.93 trillion U.S. dollars), with over 90 percent of the newly-added 2.3 trillion yuan from better data about the services sector.

If true, that would put the Chinese economy around the 1.78 trillion Euro mark in 2005. How would the Chinese economy compare to the individual members of the EU, per Eurostat:

Of course there is much more to consider when making comparisons between countries and economies. Just one of many factors above.
