The ten new EU member states (in Central and Eastern Europe) got only 7% of the regional aid distributed by the European Commission in 2005. Out of 33 billion euros allocated for the entire EU, the ten new members received only 2.3 billion. Spain received the most – 7.8 billion euros, and France received 2.2 billion, while Poland and Hungary got 995 million and 401 million euros respectively. (H/T Open Europe)
