Poles Want to Destroy Our Values
From the desk of Paul Belien on Fri, 2006-04-28 17:50
A quote from Belgian author Lucas Catherine [an employee of the Belgian state television VRT] in the Brussels newspaper De Morgen, 28 April 2006:
The Poles have never participated in our Renaissance or in the Enlightenment. Their only contribution to Western culture is the mazurka. Poles are from a country that is currently governed by a fundamentalist party which is imposing an integrist Catholic view of society. Stones are thrown at feminist demonstrators on International Women’s Day. Gays, lesbians and bisexuals have to close down their meeting rooms and pubs. [The Poles] are under the influence of [Wojtyla] who preached that the Poles should be the vanguard of a movement to destroy the values of contemporary Western Europe and replace them by the old, Christian values from before the French Revolution.
Someone wants to destroy the value of your money!

I guess our socialist friends must be totally frustrated of course.
End of last century the people of Eastern Europe, including the people in Poland, freed themselves of socialist dictatorship.
The Workers' Paradise came to an end.
I understand Lucas Catherine's frustration, but there is professional help available for such chronic depressions.

Yes but can any nation be forgiven the lugubriousness of Chopin?

and find out about topics like: What country had been the first in Europe to give its citizens religious freedom (1573).. What country had created Europe`s first ministry of education (1773) What country had adopted Europe`s first constitution (1791) ..What country in Europe had the most egalitarian government system.. ..what country had defended Europe from the Turkish (1683) and the Communist (1921) invasion.. I`m sure that this guy hasn`t also heared about the Sejm - the Polish Parliament that has been established in 1182.. or the Golden Freedom.. ..when we`re talking about Renaissance he also hasn`t heared about Copernicus.. ..And when we talk about the XVIII century I`m sure he hasn`t heared about gen. Tadeusz Kościuszko who had given his fortune to his friend - Benjamin Franklin, that he would be able to build schools for underprivileged black children. Though he`s right about one thing Poles do want to destroy Europe`s values - if those values are equal to glorification of stupidity.

vanguard of a movement to destroy the values of contemporary Western Europe
What are those Values of Contemporary Western Europe then? That criminals are not punished? That youth gangs can destroy peoples property at will and the taxpayer pays for the damage? That islamic extremists can do and say whatever they want while the other people may not?
Historical ignorance

What an egregious example of historical ignorance. Why? Because, if not for Poland, Western Europe as we know it might not even exist. Why? The Siege Of Vienna, 1683. Had Vienna fallen the whole of Germany (back then very fractured) might have very well have followed. With it who know? France? Italy (also very factured and ripe for the picking)? The Poles even left their borders undefended so they could battle the Turks and save Vienna. And how were they repayed? A mere century after their state was destroyed by the Russians, Prussians and the Austrians. Unfortunately i see that thankfulness is in the same level as it was back then. Empty.
