Too Darn Hot

A quote from Roy Spencer at TCS Daily, 15 August 2007
Al Gore and Newsweek coordinated an assault on a few [global warming] skeptics with all kinds of guilt-by-association accusations. They allege that a few scientists were offered $10,000 (!) by Big Oil to research and publish evidence against the theory of manmade global warming.
Of course, the vast majority of mainstream climate researchers receive between $100,000 to $200,000 from the federal government to do the same, but in support of manmade global warming. Apparently, that's okay since we all know that the federal government is unbiased and there to help, whereas petroleum companies only exist to force us to burn fuels that do nothing more than ruin the environment.
Little damage was done by the Gore-Newsweek assault, though, since the attack amounted to little more than a verbal "Well, your mama wears Army boots!" It didn't help matters that the magazine's own columnist, Robert Samuelson, published a follow-up article saying the allegation of bribes offered to scientists "was long ago discredited" and that "the story was a wonderful read, marred only by its being fundamentally misleading."

The inconvenient truth is that Environmental scaremongers and false prophets are routinely revered and receive much more exposure in media.
If Paul Ehrlich, a butterfly specialist, can publish bestsellers on the subject of overpopulation and enjoy incredibly succesful career out of being incredibly wrong on environmental issues, AG can do it too.
He proclaimed in 1992 that that the Northern ozone hole was leading to increased cases of cataracts and blindness among humans and "to blind rabbits in our backyards" and got away with it. Now, he's onto bigger fish.

Displacement
Submitted by Chris Bering on Fri, 2007-08-17 11:34.
(more or less wildly paraphrased) that displacement is a condition where someone - unable to admit the truth about himself - lashes out at those around him in frustration and rage at his own impotence (not to mention complicit guilt) in some situtation where he himself bears the blame, shifting instead his culpability to others.
Sounds bad - impotent, self loathing people, lashing, hating and raging against others, to hide their own shortcomings.
I'll turn on my hyperbolic impotence displacement detector and comb through any suspicious posts:
never hurt the ranters
the hatred on show
infantile irresponsibilty
in defence of "Happy Motoring"
and other yobbish abuses of Mother Nature
will eventually catch up with these right-wing smart alecks
and boot them in their fat arses
Roy Spencer's little piece of crapola
Mr Belien bothers to spread such drivel
from creationist whackos like Spencer
stir up the rag-tag army of global warming deniers
Oh my God!!! - And that was just from a single post selected completely at random. So much hyperbole, so much rage displaced at other people who never hurt anyone at all. The innocent victims don't even know this poor impotent, frustrated and angry soul that obviously hates himself very much.

I, for one, expressed no rage at any pols (nor do you cite me doing so). Rather, I expressed fear at the wrath of fellow academics who have not read deeply into the global warming literature, who ridicule me behind my back and to my face, and who can do me great harm by denying me tenure.

You see a lot of displacement in the comments here regarding environmentalism, a lot of rage at a few pols who - no matter how incompetent or distasteful they are - never hurt the ranters and and adherents of this column in any discernible way or fashion. It's hard to believe that the hatred on show here is anything other than redirected fear that infantile irresponsibilty in defence of "Happy Motoring" and other yobbish abuses of Mother Nature, will eventually catch up with these right-wing smart alecks and boot them in their fat arses in the form of more extreme weather, more air pollution, more epidemic disease, and a generally lowered standard of living and life expectancy when the kissing has to stop.
With regard to Roy Spencer's little piece of crapola presented here, one wonders why Mr Belien bothers to spread such drivel from creationist whackos like Spencer. Is it to stir up the rag-tag army of global warming deniers into making yet bigger fools of themselves, while Mr Belien can draw back and chuckle, burying the item under yet another sudden slew of new posts should refutals suddenly pile up in a direction opposite to the apparent intent of his blog?
For the record: Robert Samuelson, drawn in to support Spencer's argument, does not deny the fact of global warming at all in his cited Newsweek op-piece. Instead, it seems - if I read him right - that he claims there is nothing much to be done about it except grin and bear it. Happy Motoring as always! Pure defeatism, if you ask me, that puts Samuelson on a par with dhimmis who say we should just bend over and enjoy the muslim invasion of Europe.

In an Inconventient Truth Big Al states that with future global warming the Zuider Zee will come in and flood Holland all the way to Arnem. Too funny. If we turn the pumps off this would happen today (like duh, we are below sea level). This guy has been completely detached from reality for quite some time now flying around in his private jet spewing slogans, propaganda and other garbage. Thank G-d he never got into the White House.
Regarding the enemy I nominate these luddites: Plane Stupid http://www.planestupid.com/ They are currently protesting at Heathrow. The web site is awesome. British courts forced them to print their injunction on their web site. I like this quote
"Aviation is so damaging to the climate that jetting off to Sydney for a holiday produces the same amount of CO2 as a mini driving around the earth 640 times!"
So 40,008 km / maybe 8km/L * 640 = 3,200,640 liters of petrol. So flying to Sydney is like driving up 3,200,640 liters of fuel or more. I guess if you repeat nonsense long enough you start believing it.
Advice for dealing with global warming moonbats

"Does anyone have advice about how to deal with colleagues when the issue of global warming comes up? "
1) ask them if they eat meat. If so point out that cattle farming is very likely the number 1 source of greenhouse gases.
2) point out that China is already the number 1 greenhouse gas producer because of methane from rice paddies in addition to CO2. China is exempt from Kyoto. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2005/methane.html
3) Ask them how many Cat 5 hurricanes were in the Atlantic in 2006. Everyone is still ranting and raving about Katrina and the active 2005 season and they forget that we had zero significant storms in 2006.
4) Mention that many scientists consider Bush's methane cap and trade system to be the most effective program yet implemented to stop greenhouse gas emmissions.
5) Also mention that of the Kyoto signatories Russia is the only one that appears on target to actually meet the goals and this is only because of their economic collapse of the 1990's.
6) Ask them how their country is doing. Europeons love to sign things. Look at the Lisbon agenda and laugh.

Does anyone have advice about how to deal with colleagues when the issue of global warming comes up? I've wasted hundred of hours researching this issue, trying to find some real evidence to justify the hysteria, but it's impossible: this is clearly an example of mob rule in the sciences. But my colleagues -- most of whose knowledge of climate change comes from Gore's movie -- are true believers and view me as a heretic. I will be run out of my university if I continue to speak up. But am I supposed to just sit there and smile stupidly when they prattle on about the need for carbon taxes and their fear of rising ocean levels? Am I supposed to concur when they blame every bad storm on George Bush? Any advice? I need this job.

- is required viewing.
It also helps to watch Al's "An inconvenient truth", to "know your enemy".
In that whole emotional propaganda stunt, there's only presented a single piece of "evidence" to suggest human activity is the cause of global warming. This is thoroughly addressed and debunked in "The Great Global Warming Swindle".
The rest of Al's manifesto is an equal mix of global warming and its consequences, and of how Al is incredibly smart, thoughtful and caring - how he's in fact the next Messiah.
Independent thinkers be warned: You should wait for atleast two hours after eating, before viewing this. If you're a bit faint of heart, painkillers or sedatives might be necessary too.
Another tip:
When discussing this, many resort to quoting panic monger central, or realclimate.com as they like to call themselves. Study this place and find counter arguments.
But also reverse the "guilt by association" accusation. Every year, approximately $4billion worth of US government funding is rained down on all academics willing to be panic mongers.
They moan $10k petro dollars, you say $10M panic dollars.

You might ask your colleagues how they explain the melting polar caps on Mars. Discover Magazine recently interviewed the director of the Center for Sun-Climate Research at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen. He believes that we are in a period of the highest solar activity in 1,000 years and that the sun has a profound impact on climate. Imagine, the sun might affect climate.
I have heard many stories like yours... scientists and researchers whose jobs and grants depend on their not questioning the approved party line. I feel sorry for anyone who has to work in an environment like that.

If anyone is not convinced Al Gore is a complete swine go back and look at his similar guilt by association attacks on Ross Perot during the NAFTA debates in the early 1990's. As horrible of a President as G. Bush has been Al Gore would have been far worse.
