Will the Belgian Crisis Lead to a Sharia State in the Heart of Europe?
From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Tue, 2007-09-04 07:31
A quote from Ian Parker at his blog, 31 August 2007
The break up of Belgium. [...] The obvious is the annexing of the two largest regions, Flanders into Holland and Wallonia into France, which would in all essence leave Brussels as a region with no home. [...] The [Eurocrats] would see this as an opportunity. They would have within their power the ability to create a capital state, in the same way that Washington sits within the District of Columbia (DC) and the Australian capital Canberra sits within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Brussels would therefore become a state in its own right. A true capital of a new super state. [...]
Over half the inhabitants of the Brussels region are of foreign origin, and growing at an alarming rate, many of them from Morocco. [...] How long would it take before Brussels was declared an Islamic state. - EURABIA.
How would the 27 member states react being tied by treaty to the supremacy of Brussels if it was an Islamic state.
Sharia Law is something the peoples of Europe would never accept. The breakdown of Belgium is much more dangerous for all of us than we are being told.

It is unfortunate that Amsterdamsky, in his shallowness, continues to spread falls 'rumors' and misinformation. His latest false claim is that DC residents "can't vote". Life is not that simple, and clearly too complicated for Amsterdamsky to find any balance.
DC residents do vote in a variety of political elections. They certainly vote in local elections (i.e. for the mayorship and for the DC City Council). They also vote in the federal Presidential elections, just like any other 'Americans'. And they do vote for a (nonvoting) representative in the House of Representatives of Congress.
DC residents do NOT get to vote for any Senators, and there are good reasons for that. DC is the city where the federal government resides. Unlike any of the states, it has no genuine claim on 'regional' representation under the American Constitutional system of federalism. In fact, given that the federal government resides in the city and ipso facto spends there a sizable portion of its budget, the 'regional' interest of DC residents is already way overrepresented compared to those of the residents of any of the individual states. There are no Americans more subsidized - as a jurisdictional group - than DC residents.
The matter of representation in the House of representatives remains a subject of constant legal and political debate. There is currently a new law proposal to give voting power to the (elected) DC Representative. Other proposals abound. In my opinion, the best one is to merge DC with Maryland's congressional representation (but not at the Senate level, only for the House). There are reasonable pro AND contra arguments for each of these proposals.

"There was some talk about Jesse Jackson be the first voting rep but I haven't heard anything since".
Well, you won't have done because JJ has been over here in the uk just recently on a "fund raising" initiative,so who knows,it might still happen.

Atlanticist: Good one. Most of DC is black, violent and very poor. There was some talk about having Jesse Jackson be the first voting rep but I haven't heard anything since.
Islamic Belgium

Dont know what everyone is getting in a froth about. The whole of Belgium led by Perfect Dhimmi Fat Freddy of Brussels is already pretty well an Islamic State. Sharia Law will soon come to the Belgians and it will serve them right for being so limp and depraved.

Hey,Amsterdamsky,WE know this but don't you go giving the Eurocrats any more ideas. i.e. a new EU Constitution which provides for a situation in which residents can't vote...pure Eurotopia!

" in the same way that Washington sits within the District of Columbia (DC) "
The problem with the DC model is that residents can't vote. This has never really been resolved because only a state can elect people to congress and vote for electors for president as designed by the Constitution. They have a non-voting representative.

Hypothetical scenarios are all well and good, but in the real world I can't even access Ian Parker's original blog to read his entire thesis.Without access to the entire thesis I can't make a value judgement and anything less than a value judgement would be less than worthless.

"growing at an alarming rate"
Cease to feed them with welfare. If they are not anymore allowed to live on welfare these rates will drop.
The breackup of Belgium is an oportunity to force a stop to these dhimmi eurocrats. The were for to long allowed to do what they wanted.
