Dutch Politicians Love Obama

A quote from the Dutch press agency NIS, 5 February 2008
An overwhelming majority in the [Dutch] Lower House would vote for a Democratic presidential candidate if they were allowed to vote in the US. […] Of the 150 MPs, 103 opted for a Democrat. Only 23 MPs considered a Republican more suitable for the presidency. This was even less than the number of MPs that said they had no opinion (24).
Obama has 58 MPs behind him. The black presidential candidate is particularly favoured by the Socialist Party (SP) and leftwing Greens (GroenLinks). Hillary Clinton comes second, with the support of 40 MPs. Independent MP Rita Verdonk, according to Dutch definitions right-wing, would also vote for Clinton.
The sparse support for Republicans mostly comes from [Geert Wilders’] Party for Freedom (PVV) and conservative (VVD) MPs, along with a few Christian democrat (CDA) MPs. PVV MP Martin Bosma finds John McCain a suitable candidate, and VVD MP Hans van Baalen also prefers McCain. Among CDA MPs, the majority favours one of the Democrats.
Figures.

Of course the euro-left loves the Democrats, they would remake America in the image of Belgium or the Netherlands. (Or God forbid, Sweden.)
Obama is an empty suit........

.....but, not empty enough not to forge a ticket with Hillary. Count on it. She desperately needs him for the black votes.
Sadly, I fear this election will result in the Democrats winning. How much damage they can do to an already tanking economy is frightening. They certainly will embolden our enemies which if the Europeans weren't so stupid they would realize that also has profound consequences for them.
Massively irritating

Who gives a rip what Dutch parliamentarians think about our presidential candidates? This is the weirdest stuff. If American politicians expressed their feelings about who should rule Canada or a European nation, they would be condemned as arrogant. I get just as irritated when Europeans complain about American junk culture -- while they are eating it up with a spoon. My first thought is, "Get you own bloody culture, then. Stop obsessing on ours." What is this bizarre obsession Europeans have with America? The European Union has a larger population and a larger economy than the United States has, yet they act like some pathetic banana republic that is at the mercy of every whim of the Americans. Get a life, for God's sake.
Surprised?

"Thus far, the only - and I mean ONLY - ability Obama has demonstrated is that of giving totally vacuous speeches."
Why else do you think he's popular with Dutch politicians? They can recognize a kindred spirit.
The Dutch are worse off than I imagined, then

Thus far, the only - and I mean ONLY - ability Obama has demonstrated is that of giving totally vacuous speeches.
It's amazing how devoid of substance his speeches are. The fact that such nothingness has attracted any support at all is rather frightening.
