Archbishop Goes Bonkers (4) – But Sharia Law Already Rules Britain
From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Sat, 2008-02-09 10:27
A quote from the London Evening Standard, 8 February 2008
Leading bishops publicly contradicted Dr Rowan Williams's call for Islamic law to be brought into the British legal system. [...] One member of the church's "Cabinet", the Archbishop's Council, was reported as saying: "There have been a lot of calls for him to resign. I don't suppose he will take any notice, but, yes, he should resign." […]
The most damaging attack came from the Pakistan-born Bishop of Rochester, the Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali. He said it would be "simply impossible" to bring sharia law into British law "without fundamentally affecting its integrity". […]
Dr Williams defended himself in a Lambeth Palace statement saying he had been trying to "tease out" the issue. The archbishop had said it could help build a better and more cohesive society if Muslims were able to choose to have marital disputes or financial matters, for example, dealt with in a sharia court. The adoption of some elements of sharia law "seems unavoidable".
A quote from the London Evening Standard, 8 February 2008
Sharia law "courts" are already dealing with crime on the streets of London, it has emerged. […] [I]t was revealed today that a teenage stabbing case among the Somali community in Woolwich had been dealt with by a sharia "trial".
Youth worker Aydarus Yusuf, 29, who was involved in setting up the hearing, said a group of Somali youths were arrested by police on suspicion of stabbing another Somali teenager. The victim's family told officers the matter would be settled out of court and the suspects were released on bail. […]
An Islamic Council in Leyton also revealed that it had dealt with more than 7,000 divorces while sharia courts in the capital have settled hundreds of financial disputes. […] Along with the Islamic Council in Leyton, there are reports of at least two other sharia courts sitting in London. There are also courts in a number of other areas of the country with high Muslim populations, including Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, Birmingham and Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

if you heat the water up slowly, the people just sit there and mindlessly go along with it.
creeping socialism. creeping totalitarianism, creeping nanny-statism, creeping islamification.
Britain sure isn't what it used to be.
Perhaps the Archbishop is so completely inept that he bungled he way into doing England a huge favor with this accidental wake up call!

I agree.Unfortunately, only the Queen can insist upon him doing so...
(What an unfortunate choice of words for such a wooly-headed thinker like the Archbishop to use the term "tease out").
Tease some more

Maybe someone can "tease" him into submitting his resignation. Then the CoE can try again. Perhaps this time Bp. Nazir Ali will be chosen and the Church will have a real leader for a change. I'm not sure it could stand the shock!
Death by Sharia

Are we Brits even speaking the same language anymore? The whole thing is a joke!
Dr Williams now attempts to defend himself by saying he was only trying to "tease out" the issue. What the hell does THAT mean?
Perhaps this is one example of what Dr Williams meant by the introduction of Sharia,Brit-style.
