EU Loves Illegal Immigrants
From the desk of The Brussels Journal on Fri, 2008-08-01 06:32
A quote from the Honest Thinking website, 31 July 2008
"The European Union's top court," reports the BBC, "has ruled that non-EU nationals married to EU citizens are entitled to live in their spouse's country." Read more at EU Referendum. [...] This appears to be part of a systematic attempt at preventing European nations from determining their own immigration policies. This issue is becoming a hot issue in Denmark, where authorities are now under pressure from the EU to abandon policies that have been in place since 2001.
Shocking and disgusting

The so called "European Court of Justice" is nothing but a criminal organization which I'm compelled to feed from my taxes. For now.

The translation team at Gates of Vienna is hard at work keeping up with what might rightly be called a constitutional crisis between Denmark and the European Union. The latest installment The No Longer Forbidden Debate in Denmark posts English translations of lead-ins of the the latest editorial pieces from the Danish press, with links to complete translations.

We are slowly but surely coming to the point of sovereign European members versus the EU.
The winners are already known but just like in Belgium, the losers are dragging their feet because of their cushy unelected jobs.
Good work by the Danes, others will follow.

In an essay I wrote a couple weeks ago, I expected this kind of defiance to be on the rise. But didn't think it'd be this fast and this big, and even from my own country. Can't complain about that.
Life's interesting :)
BTW, anyone please feel free to reproduce any of my essays from GoV or EuropeNews in full at any other blog, as long as you link to the original. I write them to be read, and more copies are better.
Thanks, Henrik

Delighted to see the Danes standing up for themselves. Someone should identify various undesirable Brussels-imposed regulations and organize universal civil disobedience. It is not enough to make the bullies back down. They feel that time is on their side, and after the current furor dies down they will go about stealthily tightening their stranglehold on member nations. Danish patriots should use this opportunity to redefine Denmark's relationship to the EU through legislation or a constitutional amendment--whatever vehicle is available in your system. Danish courts should be able to uphold revisions of treaty obligations that are mandated by the sovereignty of Denmark, wherever that resides.
The Danes made things very hot for our Saxon ancestors for many years. You can no doubt make things hot for the EU bureaucrats. Holger the Dane will help!

Indeed, this has become a big issue in Denmark, where we defiantly reject the ECJ's decision on this issue.
Gates of Vienna has two posts on the subject:
The EU Lays Down the Law
Denmark's Answer to the EU
We're pissed. We don't want the EU to stomp on us like this. Usually political debate at this time is tame. Not this year, the Op-Ed's, editorials and readers' letters are full of this, and even the Social Democrats are rejecting the ECJ. This is one step too far, and those who have critizised the ECJ for years see themselves vindicated.
Interestingly, the bullies in Brussels do seem to back down, indeed.
Sovereignty

European nations need to assert their sovereignty even at the cost of retaliation by the EU bureaucracy. If confronted, the bullies will back down.
