Palin Gets the Thatcher Treatment

A quote from Janet Daley at her Telegraph blog, 4 September 2008
There are few sights more bloodcurdling than the liberal pack in full cry. The viciousness of the attacks on Sarah Palin is a testimony to the degree of panic her appointment has generated in Leftist circles. [...]
Like Margaret Thatcher before her, Mrs Palin is coming in for both barrels of Left-wing contempt: misogyny and snobbery. Where Lady Thatcher was dismissed as a "grocer's daughter" by people who called themselves egalitarian, Mrs Palin is regarded as a small-town nobody by those who claim to represent "ordinary people".
What the metropolitan sophisticates failed to understand in the 1980s when Thatcher won election after election is even more the case in the US: most (and I do mean most) ordinary people actually believe in the basic decencies, the "small-town values", of family, marital fidelity, and personal responsibility. They believe in and honour them - even if they do not manage to uphold them.

Well, think of Europe as oversized "California", minus,at least in some places, the American openess, friendliness and vigour (of course, I'm oversiplifying here grossly). :) If the American right plan to ever "turn" California, surely the task wouldn't involve writing it off or just going after left/Californians. California is more than just elitist lefty snobs; they are highly unlikely to "turn" anyway.
More people watched Palin than Obama

40 million viewers watched her speech, largely because the media tried to destroy her. A huge backfire.

I couldn't agree more. Every time I look at a British newspaper, I am convinced once again that NATO must end--or at least that America's involvement in NATO must end. America no longer shares enough values with the Western Europeans to justify our babysitting duties, and I fear we will be dragged down with them into dhimmitude. Even so wise an observer as Victor Davis Hanson has said that NATO has reached its expiration date. If only one of the major-party candidates would be so bold as to announce NATO's end, I'd spend the next two months working my tail off to get him elected.
The Brits never deserved Thatcher

The effete elitist lefty snobs in Europe loathe Palin, but, who cares here. She's a smart self-made woman with a devotion to family and community. She doesn't have the modern self-loathing feminist nihilism agenda nor their sense of gender entitlement. She's made it on her own.
It's always fascinating and predictabile to see European reactions to American politics. The EU sheeple whose liberties are dimming by their own hands, subservient to their entrenched elites, are always furious that we haven't taken their path to serfdom. Nothing infuriates Europeans more than Americans having the audacity to not understand their place in serfdom and achieving without permissions.
Reading the comments to the article is nauseating. They reveal too many Brits whose culture has been trashed by the Left as having been indoctrinated by the very dogmas that are ruining them.
