According to a Danish top diplomat, who would only comment if he remained anonymous, Denmark will no longer bow down before the other EU member states when it comes to the EU budget.
In June Copenhagen accepted the budget proposal that would require it to pay at least an additional 100 million Euros a year. However, since the budget negotiations have not been finalised yet and a number of EU countries keep pushing for bigger and bigger pieces of the pie, the Danish support for the budget proposal is over. “Denmark is no longer going to be Mr. Nice Guy,” the top diplomat said. He added that the longer the negotiations take the more demands the Danes will come up with.
