A survey for the European Commission in November found that 93 percent of respondents pinned higher inflation squarely on the euro, a uniform result across social class, age and geography. A monthly poll for the commission shows as well that Europeans anticipate higher inflation in the future.

OTOH, the euro makes for easier price comparisons when shopping for goods abroad.
Writeable DVDs are about 50% cheaper when mailordered from Luxemburg, due to local taxes.
