Spanish Government Starts Civil War All Over Again

A quote from Keith Johnson in The Wall Street Journal, 4 December 2006

[Spain’s Prime Minister] Zapatero, a self-described “red” and pacifist, is pushing a new historical reading of the Spanish Civil War that includes literally rubbing Gen. Franco’s name off the map. As part of a proposed new “law of historical memory,” Mr. Zapatero wants towns across Spain to erase all vestiges of Franco – from street names to statues. […] As he pushes for a new reading of that period, Mr. Zapatero is unleashing an army of ghosts that had been dormant for decades […] The bill and the broader issues surrounding the Civil War have come to dominate many corners of contemporary political debate. Recently, on a prime-time TV show, Mr. Zapatero’s top spokesman and a senior official from the Popular Party angrily debated government policies from 70 years ago.

Zapatero, as all the

Zapatero, as all the leftists in this country, is quite fucked up by the undeniable fact that Franco's long regime brought a lot of prosperity to Spain. When he took over the country it was basically a pisspoor nation of starved farmers. After a few decades we were on our way to the nation you know now. He introduced social security...under his rule, hundreds of households were built for Spaniards with very humble incomings...sure his govt has faults (like the socialists's dont...) but Zapatero wants to erase it all with the hope than in the future they will be remembered as the ones who made it possible...the next generation probably won't know about Franco...the lies are systematic...in tv, in school books...ignorace is blissful for these leftists assholes.

Azor

Without Franco Spain would have been another Albania.

The Reds - after they lose - are all just well-intentioned Social Democrats. There was never a Communist among them.

Franco was the only commander to defeat the Soviets in a war until Afghanistan. The Left will never get over it.

Typical of the leftists

We've seen this obsession of the leftists to re-write the History here in France too. For example under Mitterand's socialist regime, we've been fed daily with the assimilation of the Vichy regime of the 40's with the contemporary rise of french rightists in the polls, plus we had also to ingurgigate all sort of warnings on the style of "what would you do to resist if fascism came back today (meaning of course Le Pen)?"............ .............. ........... .......... .........................until the very same people who tried to brainwash us with their ideology in the 80's and 90's, were proved to be the same who looked the other way when some sort of "soft Kristall-nacht" happenned in France in 2000-2002. Ah, one detail could explain this shyness to denounce the new fascism: the ones commiting the antisemitic attacks were their "protégés", the young arab/muslims that they had spent years describing as victims of the ugly racist french...
