First Victim

A quote from EUobserver, 10 June 2008
French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner has warned Ireland about the consequences of voting "No" in Thursday's referendum, saying the Irish would be the "first victim" if they reject the EU treaty.
Speaking on France's RTL radio, Mr Kouchner said that a "No" vote would be met by "gigantic incomprehension" in the rest of Europe. Mr Kouchner alluded to the Irish being ungrateful about what the country has received from the EU since its membership in 1973.
Shouldn't have been this way

It shouldn't have been this way but europe squeeked through another tight test thanks to the Irish who clearly had some politicians with balls once upon a time when their constitution was written.
Thank God for the Irish

A resounding NO!!!!! to EU fascism.
It's time for the Brits to throw out Brown and join them.
KOUCHNER AND THE IRISH REFERENDUM

Whatever Kouchner says or does is definitely a non-event ; Unfortunately, I can't really translate the nickname we gave him a few years ago : he claimed he was a "tiersmondiste" (in favour of the third world), and at the same time he belonged to what he called "the best society circles" ; so we nicknamed him "LE TIERSMONDAIN" ; he has not changed since then!

@ kappert
Short answer:
"Now only Ireland stands between a proper rethink of the Treaty and the empire-building ambitions of the anti-democratic, expenses-fiddling, systematically corrupt Eurocrats aboard the Brussels gravy train".

who, if not Ireland ...

... was fostered by the European Union. Does anyone remember Ireland 25 years ago? That the neoliberal input did not prevent rising unemployment and worse social standards is a prove of itself, no surprise there. If Irish vote 'no', they're ignoring the benefits of a 'common market' in the last decades, and react in a hasty, populistic manner, as economics/society do not run well, neither in 2008 and much less in the near future.
Politicians fail to explain what's the very purpose of the EU, giving the ball to the adversary - like Switzerland in football.
That's a clear threat. At

That's a clear threat. At least he is honest about the fascist intentions of the EU.
Don't count on the Irish

Don't put too much hope in the Irish voting "no", they know where their bread is buttered. The EU brought them a level of prosperity that finally erased centuries of poverty. Sadly, we aren't living in an principled era anymore. Freedom is expendable.
Socialism cunningly creates a relationship where personal welfare is tied to the state rather than free enterprise. Until that is dismantled in Europe you will remain serfs to the elite in Brussels.
Threaten more please

The EU is showing it's true face. This is the best publicity possible for a No vote. What is going to be really interesting to watch is how Brussels will deal with the No vote. They have already voted to ignore it but I don't think that will fly.

The "gigantic incomprehension" is already there, you and your socialist/social democrats don't have a clue what the people think and how they see the EU: one gigantic and wasteful pigsty where the corrupt politicians act as Louis XIV in his worst megalomania.
Granted;, Carla Bruni looks better than "Mme de Pompadour", but the behaviour of the European "grandees" is exactly the same and as far from the people as the old feudals.
I hope the Irish blow it up.
What are the odds?

Forget what the politicians and political pundits have to say, and look at what the bookies are saying. They very seldom get it wrong.

I will greet the "No!" vote

I will greet the "No!" vote with great enthusiasm and now there is another reason:- it would be a rebuke for all those meddlesome politicians eager to inject themselves into political debates of other member states.
Better make sure those Leclerc tanks get sorted, Mr. Kouchner :)
