Saint Patrick’s Day
From the desk of Paul Belien on Fri, 2006-03-17 18:38
Saint Patrick was a Roman who ended up beyond the Empire’s westernmost border. When the Empire collapsed its Christian legacy was preserved in Ireland thanks to Patrick. From Ireland Patrick’s spiritual sons, Columba, Aidan and other holy men, eventually brought the ancient heritage back east, to the lands where it had originally come from.
Ten years ago Thomas Cahill published a delightful little book, “How the Irish Saved Civilization,” describing how from the bower the saints and scholars came that saved the classical and religious heritage of Europe.
Today we are witnessing a second age of migrations and wanderings of nations. Christianity has already to a large extent died in Europe, and, barring a miracle, the old continent will descend into the dark ages for a second time.
It is doubtful that Ireland will escape the coming of Eurabia. The Irish have been infected with the same deadly poison of multiculturalism that has infected the whole of Western Europe. Dublin already has its mosques – who could have imagined that half a century ago! – and the time is not far away that in Ireland – as in other countries in Western Europe – more people will be visiting a mosque to pray every week than a Christian church.
And yet, we know that, even if Europe perishes, its culture, its religion, its heritage lives on, beyond its westernmost border, in America. One day, perhaps, America will send its missionaries east in order to re-europeanise the countries where its own civilisation came from.
As a boy Patrick was abducted from Roman Britain by slave raiders and taken to Ireland. He managed to escape and board a ship bound for the Empire only to find “desertum,” moral, economic and political devastation there, in the very year – 407 AD – that barbaric hordes wreaked devastation in Gaul.
All of us who live in Europe and can read the signs of the times, know that ours is a civilisation that has committed suicide. And yet we must bear witness to the world, and especially to America, about what European civilisation is today: moral, economic and political devastation, desertum.
It is our duty to report about the devastation in Europe 1,600 years after the first one, a devastation wreaked not by barbarians but wreaked in our souls by ourselves first, leaving a desertum which a desert people is now taking advantage of. This is the sad story of Europe. It is a lesson for America to ponder on this Saint Patrick’s day: Do not repeat Europe’s fatal mistake.
Defeating Defeatism

Mr Belien:
You disappoint me. With your defeatist attitude how can one choose between you and a robbed mullah? Frankly, that is no choice at all.
Use your power to fight with words. Muscles are not what is needed right now.
Contribute to the growing movement within Europe by inviting writers such as Wolfgang Bruno.
Defeating Defeatism - The End of the Phony War
"What we need now is not another column by Mark Steyn telling us that all I lost and we might as well surrender pre-emptively. What we need now is anger. Anger gives you energy, instead of the resigned passivity bred by defeatism. However, we should be careful not direct this anger towards that favorite Eurabian boogeyman, the USA and Israel, nor should we resort to the time-tested European tradition of targeting random “foreigners.” It wasn’t the Americans or the Israelis who brought us into this mess, and it certainly wasn’t the Indian dentist or the Chinese shopkeeper down the corner. It was in fact our very own EU elites."

Are we defeated?
Not yet, but at the current pace of evolutions we might be (at least in WEU).
Time will tell, all we can do is fight with words.
I remember a speech...you'll laugh..but its a speech that haunts my brain.
Its from the movie 'Independence day': "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

Oh Brigands I loved that movie too! But it was multicultural, the hereoes were an American Jew and A African-American Air Force Pilot, An Ex - Drunk White Pilot with 3 mixed breed Latino/Native American Indian Children by his late wife!
A Young Newly Widowed now Single Parent Feisty President who has just fired a Cabinet Minister without the help of Congress and a cast of some asian, black, white, latino etc. you get my drift. We were in it together..the fight as it were. They even had arab pilots in the Negev along with the Brits and Israelis. Which is why it was banned in the MUSLIM countries! How dare such a movie exist! A Jew and a descendant of Ex - Slave save the WORLD! Impossible! But that is the point in the end..I think our greatest danger may come from a problem from "without". We will be defeated because we cannot work together from "within." I admit I haVe a tolerance problem when it comes to muslims..I will only WORK with people who will WORK with me in good conscience and with trust. No we are not defeated yet, not by a long shot. But there was no Master Race or Master Religion in that movie.. humanity had to band together because they THE ENEMY wanted us dead! So I hope it never comes to that..because I am not sure all the "human beings" here on this planet would help one another or would we all sell the other out because we have not become a true multicultural society. I am sure the enemey if it was alien would definitely KILL US ALL! Therefore. we shall have to become a "band of brothers under the Human Banner" to save all our skins! When we do that..that will be "Our Independence Day!"

Us dead, enslaved or subdued facing Mekka.
Either way they want us dead, if not physically then psychologically & culturally.
Yearning for the past

I start to understand.
Mr. B. laments the coming of the modern world of the enlightenment, which is of course exactly what distinguishes us from the benighted Moslems, who by-and-large have not yet had their own reformation or enlightenment.
Well Mr. B, I am not sure if I see much to chose from between you and some robed mullah. I hope I am wrong but I start to detect a similar and annoying strain of intolerance and 'woe-is-me.'
There is a big difference between multiculturalism and tolerance and I get the sense you have either forgotten or never understood.
Yes, Moslem bigotry is awful but not because it is Moslem but because it is bigotry. If it were Christian it would be as ugly.
And btw, I think you'll be disappointed in the USA if you think that we are all bigoted as Mr. Buchanan. We have many useful idiots on the left, too.
If you honestly believe that the decline of the west started with the enlightenment then I can well understand -- but do not in the least sympathize -- with your fears, which seem to conflate tolerance with weakness, or conversely, conflate bigotry with strength.
Yes there is a certain strength in the stupidity of a suicide bomber who is too blinded by "faith" to fear the unknown of death. If that is your value...alas. People of many faiths share such ego-besotted sense that they know the nature of reality and have some inside-track to God. If you believe that western civilization is based on that sort of 12th century thinking then you are not the ally I had hope to find here. It is a muscular secularism which will save the west, not a return to a discredited fanatical religion of the past.
Muscular Christianity
Submitted by Paul Belien on Sun, 2006-03-19 09:44.
Muscular secularism does not exist. The only force that ever fought Islam was muscular Christianity. Remember the Crusades, way back when Western civilization was based on some "sort or 12th century thinking"?
The West (at least in Europe and in "blue state" America, but not - thank God - in "red state" America) has lost the fighting spirit. Hence, it will perish. You do not see much difference between me and a robed mullah. That is why you will end up with the robed mullah.

"Muscular secularism does not exist."
Bosh.
Go tell that to the founding fathers of the USA, who were only nominally Christian.
(Btw, you are totally out of touch if you think that blue state or red state makes any difference, at this time. That's a definitive and firm statement: you simply don't know enough about the USA to opine about it i.e. very few of us see the danger yet, led as we are by a buffoon.)
Look Mr. B, if you want to further divide the West and make matters all that more difficult, go ahead and make revival of a pre-enlightenment Christianity the center-piece of resistance to Islam. The strength of the West is that it is no longer based on a narrow bigotted Christianity.
Are you one of those fifth columnists who are gnawing at our strength from within by trying to revive the Christian middle ages? If so, then surely your predictions of Islamic victory are more likely. Get with it, man. There is little desire to return to an outdated world of phony hypocritical piety.
Do remember what Marx said about history repeating itself. And please, I beseech you, for I see you are a decent man, don't let your resistance to Islam be a comic second act.

Saint Patricks day...hope you've been wearing Green.
Anyways...if Eurabia comes around, cant be stopped or we've lost completely and there is no other alternative...then I'll move to Israel or South Africa or Australia.
Why Israel? At least there you know who the enemy is & you're allowed to shoot...here you'll probably will have to wear a big orange bullseye if the shoes really hit the fan.
Um, what makes you think America is still going to be viable?
Submitted by mordant on Fri, 2006-03-17 23:59.
I hate to break this to you, but things over here aren't much better. Europe can't rely on America to preserve the flame of Western civilization, because America herself has given up on Western civilization.
This time, there won't be anyone to re-kindle it, on any continent.
Sorry mordo... Western civilization alive and well

What rock did you crawl out from under to issue your "western civilization" theory?
Be sure and let me know when western civilization is second to ANY on this planet.
Too bad for mordo... you'll never live to see the day.
Patrick a Roman?
Submitted by maigemu on Fri, 2006-03-17 22:42.
I do not know where this idea comes from except that he was from Roman Britain. So perhaps Patrick was as much a Roman as I am a European.
He was a Briton, born in Bannavem Taburniæ according to his Confession, (although it could have been spelled as Bannaventa Berniae) but we do not know where that is, except that it must have been on the west coast of Britain.
He could have bee English, Welsh or Scots but never Roman or Irish.

you could cheer yourself up and turn on the Commonwealth Games from Melbourne - where, as Jeremy Hardy said on the radio tonight, Britain's former slaves thrash us in the games we taught them how to play. Did you see the Pakistani lady swimmer last night! Now that's progress!!
Not quite time to slash our collective wrists yet, Mr B. There's still lots to be positive about.
By the way, when it's time for the Americans to missionise us again, they won't have to set off in their crude leather boats. They'll be able to PICK UP THE PHONE, or use the INTERNET. It's a global village, Mr B! It might be a desert, but we're all living in the same one now.
