Mohammed "Statue" in Belgian Church

These two photographs were taken in the Church of Our Lady in Dendermonde, Flanders (Belgium). They show the late 17th century pulpit, sculpted in wood by Mattheus van Beveren.  The person subdued by the angels and having a Koran in his hands is generally thought to be Mohammed. The sculpture represents the triumph of christianity over islam.

My problem here is, I can see the church authorities removing the "offending" art work because it might upset people who would like to burn their church down and force them to convert. We can't upset them can we? That would be like standing up to intimidation!

Wonderful statue, can be interpreted in many ways but nevertheless a beauty, we ought to see more like this all around Europe.

Islamic (terrorists?) have carried out more than 4,733 deadly attacks SINCE 9/11 2001. In last month, the month of march alone they were responsible for 244 attacks, 1280 dead bodies and 1585 critically injured. the (moderate muslim?) response, as always... to deflect, deny and deceive.

That shows how much Islam was fought long time ago, because it is the best relegion in the world, and the profit Mohammed(sala al-lah aleh wa salem) is the best man in the world who guids the people to the right way.
The nowadays problem is that people don’t know what islam is. They only hear bad things that others say. Please if you want to judge the Islam, read about it first and get the correct information then we agree about your judgement, but trust me you will find it imazing religion guiding people to the correct way of life; helping both poor and rich people to live peacefully; getting rid off your stres caused by daily problems;and showing how much wommen are valuable and respectfull. This is only veeeeeery small about the Islam. Dont wast your tim and check what is Islam.

point! Oh you people make me sick with it. So let me ask you this, I lived among you..Can you explain why the good moderate muslims seem to kiss the bums of all the violent ones all the time! None of you ever protest or declaim about acts of violence perpetrated against the West, against cartoons, slurs and slanders printed in islamic newspapers,against a myriad of injustices..but let one westerner do something and you people are up in arms.

All I need to know about Islam is strapped to the body of murderers in Iraq, Israel, London, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Jordan, Chechnya, Beslan, etc., etc., etc. The echoes of Islam's bomb blasts speak much louder than any meek and subserviant Muslim apologist ever will.

You cannot have it both ways. Islam is either a religion of peace or it is not--it certainly cannot be a religion of peace while its practitioners are blowing up people whenever and wherever it encounters other religions.

You either need to learn what Islam is yourself or take back your religion from the murderers that want all non-Muslims to die. Until that happens, all non-Muslims are going to distrust all things Mohammed. Now, whose fault is that?

I don't really understand: if christians think they are superieur, what they don't let Islam alone?

The koran and Mohammad (plessings of Allaah on him) order us to respect all the other prophets (plessings of Allaah on them) and religions beacuse they come from the same source.

Please do some effort to know the others if you want to judge them.

Judging from the equally poor grammar from the comment and the website that was reccommended, by gorge, I would hazard a guess that the commenter is the same person running the website. Sadly this site attempts to prove that all the things of scientific observation are explained by the Koran. With no more effect then when any other group of true believers attempt to fit the facts to the faith.

During WWII American destroyers and frigates were often attacked by kamikaze pilots because of mistaken identity. The pilots were looking for the carriers, battleships and troop transports that were part of the fleet supporting the invasion of Okinawa. Eventually some of the picket ships put up banners with arrows directing the suicide pilots away from them and toward the fleet. I'm wondering how many churches in Flanders will now have signs directing enraged Muslims away from their church and towards the Church of Our Lady?
