A Menace to Society

A quote from the Italian press agency Ansa, 2 October 2007

Italy was set Friday to start expelling European Union citizens considered a menace to society. The move came amid a crime wave involving many immigrants from new EU member Romania – and after a deadly assault on a navy officer's wife that shocked the nation. […]

EU citizens are allowed to travel freely within the community. Romanians have flowed into Italy since Bucharest joined the EU in January and they now make up the biggest foreign community here. Romanians top recent crime statistics for serious crimes like murder, rape and robbery. Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni said Romanians accounted for 75% of the city's arrests on those charges from January to September. […]

Romania has offered support to Italy while stressing the need to discriminate and noting that it can't bring people back "by force". Three Romanian police officers flew in Thursday to join five colleagues […] Another two men from Bucharest will be arriving in the next few days to help Italian police. Italian police have voiced fears of a potentially violent backlash against immigrants - with vigilante patrols already reported in northern Italy.

The new decree does not apply to cases that go to court. However, Justice Minister Clemente Mastella and his Romanian counterpart Tudor Chiuariu agreed on Thursday that many convicted Romanians, who now form a large part of Italy's prison population, will be flown back to serve out their sentences in Romania.

remember the "poles" who killed Joe Van Holsbeeck ?

In today’s edition, the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad writes that it has learned from its sources that the 16-year old boy who was arrested earlier this week for the murder of 17-year old Joe Van Holsbeeck, is called Marius. He belongs to a family of Polish gypsies who have been living in Belgium illegally since 2000.

They are Gypsies, aren't

They are Gypsies, aren't they? So what?

So, my mother told me of getting a phone calls every so often in the summer, from farmers down the line warning that Gypsies were coming. This was in the US on the Great Plains during 1920s and 30s.

You ran and locked everything up. You went out to the fields to bring back the men and handed them their already loaded shotguns when they reached the house. Your big dogs were right there. All to greet the Model-T Ford full of Gypsies.

If you were fool enough to let any of them get out and move around, their kids would be off in dozen directions grabbing anything they could steal.

You just gave them whatever they said they wanted as a pretext for stopping and wished them on their way. Then you ran to the phone and warned the next family.

It's their culture. Many American businesses will not accept credit card orders from Romania. The fraud rate is sky high.

A nation without a border that IT controls doesn't even really exist.

Gypsies!

Once again political correctness prevent media from mentioning the word GYPSY when necessary.  (once about individual case is not enough) While spiting on Romanians over and over is of course absolutely OK.

@traveller

traveller I think you are right Romania shouldn’t have been allowed to join EU.

@Yitzhak

This is actually very good thing for Romania at this point. Finally most of Gypsies will move to the west and all fanatics of human rights will have first hand opportunity to take care about them and their "culture". I wish them a lot luck to succeed, they will definitely need it!

Ceaucescu, the Cigans, and the true face of Socialism

As fellow posters have stated correctly, Rumania once was a highly cultivated country. The Austrian Empire invested enourmous financial and human resources in order to extend western European civilization to this remote place. Then, after a lot of turmoil and the sacrifice of central Europe to Stalin, Ceaucescu came. In good communist tradition, he selected the least educated (but) most brutal segement of society, and gave them enourmous privileges in return for them terrorizing and finally wiping out what communists love to call bourgoisie, the productive part of society. All these Pol-Potesque events happened with a lot of moral and financial support by western, mainly French governments. Now we get presented the bill. But rest assured, the few remaining real Romanians do not like the Cigans either as they behave there the same they do over here.

@ dbostan

I know that but I don't want to be prosecuted for racism here. I hope your country will be back on it's feet but your people have to take serious action.
With my good wishes for you and your people.

communism.

Prior to the arrival of the communists, Romania was the jewel of the eastern European countries. Its medical schools were world famous, writers like Ionescu were flourishing, and strong universities were present.

Ceaucescu and his cronies utterly wiped out this country. I recall seeing their dead bodies after the execution and thinking how could it be that such a pathetic pair had destroyed a whole country.

Its best and brightest long since left, or were destroyed. Hard to imagine how it can bounce back.

Ask yourself this question....

Would you rather have Romanian's who 90% of the time are more than likely Christians, or would you rather have Muslims entering your country?  I think the choice is obvious.  Either/or, no one is above the law of the land they are entering, and that has to be adhered to!

I am sorry

Being a Romanian, living in the US, I am deeply sorry for this.

Pointing out that the vast majority of the crimes are committed by gypsies, wouldn't help I guess...

A menace to society 2

For those people who think I am racist or anti-romanian, following remark:

In 1966 I was the first time in Bucarest and visited the National Museum. To my utter astonishment I found the most beeautiful impressionist paintings by romanian artists from BEFORE the time of the french impressionists. I was convinced to be in a country of culture. My personal experiences afterwards made me conclude that marxism had wiped out the romanian culture and fabric of society, which was proven dozens of times to me. I hope they recover but it will take years.

A menace to society

I know Romania intimately since many years, their values are located with the top 20% of the population, the rest is to poor to worry about values. Under the communists it was normal to lie, steal and cheat to survive. Prostitution, child abuse, drugs, juvenile delinquency is normal and common.
Either Europe steps in, which they can't do because they don't have the tools nor the moral strength or they let it fester. In any case another country which shouldn't have been allowed in.
