Wake Me Up When Stephen Pollard Is Gone

A quote from Stephen Pollard at his Spectator blog, 25 January 2008

The Brussels Journal is a site which many American conservatives read about matters European. Unfortunately, [m]any otherwise well informed American conservatives get their information about Europe - specifically, the influence of Islam in Europe - through a site which views Islam itself as a cancer to be fought and which regards  an Islamic takeover of Europe as something which has effectively already happened.

Wilders Postpones Movie, Fortuyn’s Lawyer Attacks Wilders

Geert Wilders

The Dutch politician Geert Wilders has told De Telegraaf, the largest newspaper in the Netherlands that he has postponed the release of his “anti-Koran movie” until next March.

Two months ago, Wilders announced that he planned to release a 10-minute film about the Koran in January. Wilders says the Koran must be banned in the Netherlands because it is as intolerant and dangerous as Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. This week a number of Dutch media openly wondered whether Wilders really was making a film or whether his announcement had been simply a PR stunt.

Shall We Have a Fishy on a Little Dishy When Sarko’s Boat Comes In?

On the Atlantic seaboard, there has long been strong culture of fish as part of the national cuisine backed, until recently, by substantial fishing fleets that once dominated the national fisheries of each country. Though we still have the taste for fish, the madness that is the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) has done for fish stocks and fishing fleets.

European Parliament Grants President Arbitrary Powers

A quote from Daniel Hannan MEP at his blog, 25 January 2008

Yesterday, the President of the [European] Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, asked for, and was granted, arbitrary powers to suspend the rules of the institution in order to disadvantage the tiny number of MEPs [Members of the European Parliament] who want a referendum on the European Constitution/Lisbon Treaty. […] Hans-Gert openly admitted that the behaviour of his Euro-sceptic opponents was within the rules. And he wasn’t asking to change those rules – a procedure that would take time. No, he simply wanted permission to disregard them. Permission was duly granted, by 20 committee votes to 3. […]

Is Geert Wilders on a Suicide Mission?

Holland is a country of political, religious and cultural fervour. The Dutch are a nation of puritans, attracted to the ‘purity’ of extremisms. In the first half of the last century the country was the most prudish; in the second half of the century it took hedonistic secularism to its furthest limits. The Dutch live below sea level but they prefer to walk on the edge of an abyss.

Fadela Has a Dream

Like Jacques Attali, Fadela Amara, the French secretary of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, has been enjoying continuous media coverage and public attention for several weeks. She was one of two Muslim women appointed to ministerial posts after Sarkozy's election last May (the other being Minister of Justice Rachida Dati).

Amara's superior, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Christine Boutin, has on the other hand been receiving unwelcome negative publicity in recent weeks when she was accused by DAL (Right to Housing) of not providing sufficient housing for the underclass, primarily immigrants. Her response was that she could not do everything at once, but that her promises would be kept in due time.

It was then learned that one of Boutin's key assistants in the ministry, Jean-Paul Bolufer, was living in an elegant apartment in a good neighborhood, but paying 4 to 5 times less than the market value. More specifically, he lived in 190 square meters at 6.30 euros the square meter. When the news leaked out he turned in his resignation.

The scandal was just the fuel the right-to-housing organizations needed to put pressure on the ministry for more housing and more social programs. At the center of these demands is Fadela Amara. She is the founder of the organization Ni Putes Ni Soumises (Neither Whores nor Slaves), created to help the Muslim women of the ghettoes. Later, she became a Socialist councilor. Last June, though still a Socialist councilor, Nicolas Sarkozy made her a member of the cabinet. Today, the rather disorderly, often Arab-speaking, pugnacious Amara is receiving the lion's share of publicity in her ministry.

Belgium’s Interim Government Reveals NATO Secret

Yesterday, Belgium’s interim Minister of Defense, the Christian-Democrat Pieter De Crem, revealed a NATO top secret which his predecessor, an anti-American Socialist, had managed to keep: i.e. where the (American) nuclear weapons in Belgium are located. During a visit with journalists to the Belgian military base of Kleine Brogel, just south of the Dutch border, Mr. De Crem told Belgian radio that there is "nuclear capacity" at the base.

Here Piggy Wiggy

That's it I resign. This latest piece of lunacy has tipped me over the balance and I think I am going to start taking large quantities of drugs.

Wake me up when the Muslims have gone.

France Adds a Non-European Paris Every Six Years

A quote from Gérard Pince at his blog, 15 January 2008 [English translation here]

[T]he number of immigrants arriving [in France] from countries outside of the European Union has already gone from 153,000 in 1999 to 251,000 in 2005. The illegals estimated at about 100,000 can be added to these official figures. One can therefore assume that about 350,000 entered French territory in 2005, which in six years is the equivalent of the population of Paris. As far as the contribution of this migratory influx is concerned, let us just quote from our Economic Report on Immigration: “Six out of ten persons from foreign countries of working age are idle. The deficit in public funds attributable to this population reaches 48 billion euros, or 80% of the total deficit recorded in 2004.”
